Can sunglasses make someone more attractive (according to science)?

Have you ever wondered if people look better with sunglasses? Well here are some facts backed by science and social experiments that prove that glasses can make someone look better.

  1. Sunglasses create mystery: A lot of people find someone with a bit of mystery more attractive than someone with no mystery. For example, people will look at someone in the eyes and their overall face and judge things about their character. Hence, sunglasses block not only one’s eyes, but parts of their eyebrows and a bit under their eyes. This, in essence, does not allow people to make quick judgments  simply by looking at someone, and hence making one look more mysterious.
  2. Sunglasses bring symmetry: According to science, as a general rule the more symmetrical one’s face is the more attractive they are perceived to be. As mentioned before, putting on sunglasses blocks parts of one’s face, and therefore, if someone has asymmetrical “imperfections” the sunglasses not only block them, but replace them with a perfectly symmetrical accessory.
  3. Sunglasses are associated with glamour and fun: Generally speaking when one is seen with sunglasses, they are perceived as more outgoing and fun than someone simply not wearing sunglasses. A similar contrast to this is the fact that people perceive someone as smarter if the person is wearing prescription sunglasses.

At Peeq, we do not believe in judging how one looks, hence the three points above are taken from a science based source and are not reflective of our beliefs.
